poetry in commotion

so things are moving along. i forgot how working life is. i was unemployed for the longest duration since i was a teenager i think. and boy was it divine.

on friday dad flew in on a freezing rainy night and poor thing had a hella time getting to his hotel. it was good to see him though and after a good nights sleep we were ready to hit the town. we had breakfast and talked lots and the talking continued all day. it was exceptionally cold but we trained up to central park and walked around until we came across the ice-skating pond! happy coincidence! we had just been talking about it and were extremely excited to get out on the ice. we put on our hired skates and shuffled onto the pond and holding hands made slow shaky circles. eventually we got faster and better and memories of friday night ice-skating came flooding back with the inherent knowledge of how to skate. i wizzed round once by myself and smiled at the memories of holding boys hands to go super fast. they played old 60's classics that suited the skating perfectly.

we stopped to have hot apple cider and the sun came out and it was too good to be true. we hardly wanted to stop but it was getting later and colder. we headed to the lower east side where i thought dad would enjoy the famous "katz" to get a dose of scrumptious pastrami and sauerkraut (ug kraut). it was packed (it always is) and noisy and yummy. i had potato pancakes. we went to a cute little bar/cafe for beer and wine before heading home earlyish to get some much needed sleep.

the next day was even sunnier and even colder. dad came and saw my house and then we walked all around liberty state park in the biting wind. we went back to katz for cheesecake and then gorged ourselves at max brenner again. we had thick rich dark hot chocolate and a plate of praline. so decadent!! unfortunately the result of something gave me (and later dad) the runs. yes, horrid and gross as it is to admit, it was a nightmarish journey home. i never thought i'd survive. bleh. i said goodbye to dad and went to etsy to see rob play his guitar in the stairwell and eat pumpkin soup.

this week i decided to a: get more sleep and b: wear better clothes to work. yesterday didnt go so well but today i surprised everyone (including myself) by dressing up (my workmates seemed confused) and making my lunch. the day goes by quickly in a frenzy of skirt making. i made 6 skirts today. and more to come tomorrow.

i also have to vote. for who?? no idea.

i talked with dad of plans to travel to europe as much as is cheaply possible. i figure i may as well since i'm on this side of the world. berlin here i come!
